Pilates, Yoga and Meditation

Because of the problems I had been having with my back, the doctors prescribed me pilates classes. At first I was reluctant to go, however I just finished the 6 week course and found it to be really helpful. It was very relaxing and allowed me to engage with the muscles in my back that I keep hurting over and over again.

By chance, my Dad joined our local gym, and they happen to run their own yoga class. As the pilates was destined to come to an end, me and my mum joined it. I have done yoga in the past from an app called 'Asana Rebel' however a real class would be more challenging and engaging, whilst giving me a weekly routine to get into.

I have been going to yoga now for about a month and love it. About 6 of us meet for a small hour long class each week. I have found it helps me to relax both physically and mentally. I can clear myself of stress and tension, and for that time just think about myself, and not my problems. It helps mentally to take some time out from the busy world, and lose yourself in the flow of the stretches and the music.

It has helped me to think and reflect about life over the summer, what have I achieved? Whats been productive? Good? Bad? What memories have I made?

I know that yoga will continue to be helpful when uni starts again. It will help me to stay on top of my feelings that can get caught up in the stress of coursework and lectures. The fact that it is on a Sunday can also help me to prepare for the new week ahead.

If you are in doubt, find a quick YouTube video of a yoga tutorial. You don't even have to go to a class to experience it. However, a class is more beneficial as there is a certain energy in the room, and the teacher is there to correct wrong positions. She also stretches (and cracks) my backs each week which is BLISS. If you are feeling stressed, unflexiable, or just fancy it, give it a go.

I believe yoga can help everyone in some way, whether you're male (there are males in my class who love it), female, young or old.
