Park Run
Today, In It Together did the Coventry Park Run and decided to do a takeover, as the ladies had just finished our beginners running schemes and what better way to round it up than to do a 5k run together. I have done one park run before however didn't manage to run it all. Since then, I have been running more and have been working on my fitness level, and this time I was determined to get round the whole route without stopping running, which I managed to do! A lot of the ladies there also managed to do it all without stopping, what an achievement it was to see their progress, as 8 weeks ago some couldn't run at all.
As a volunteer who helps to run the programme, it is so fulfilling to see that we have actually helped these ladies to reach their goals. Even some of the ladies who did need to stop for a short while did so so well, they completed their 5k and everybody there had a smile on their faces at the end. I am so proud of their journeys and I have loved getting to know them all as they all have their own stories and reasons for running in the first place.
It has been challenging to keep some of them attending and getting them to believe in themselves, but it has been so fun, exciting and I feel really proud that I have been a part of this amazing project again.
It has also led me to redesign the poster I did for them, In It Together have chosen to use my work again and I'm really happy they have. I am so lucky to be able to work so closely with this amazing project on a voluntary sports basis and a design basis. I really hope this can lead to more design work with them in the future as I believe being a part of the programme gives me a deeper insight into and more knowledge of their programme and makes the design work itself have more meaning.
Here is a before and after photo of the ladies who managed to make it to the Park Run.
Maybe this has got you thinking about running, if so there are both male and female running groups and classes with In It Together (ladies) and Inform (mens). You can find them on FaceBook and Twitter. I find it is such a good way to de-stress from the pressures of work or school, and it gives me vital time to think about myself, my worries or my creativity. Most of the time I come up with new innovative ideas when running as it clears your head in a way nothing else can.
Thanks for reading this post! I hope you have enjoyed it,
