WRITING

Physically, writing is the act of forming readable and recognisable characters on a page. However, as a creative, writing is more than this to me.

The first thing that springs to my mind when seeing the word 'writing' is my English Literature A-Level. I had to do so much essay writing and answering questions to do with my reading list. The books I studied had also been written, some by famous authors such as Bram Stoker or playwright Tenessee Williams, and some had been written by more local and less famous writers - poets in fact - in a book called 'Poems of the Decade'.

The second thing that springs to mind is my boyfriend. He has recently written a play which I am about half way through reading. He is so talented, and comes up with wacky concepts and ideas that are so creative, yet manages to explain his concept so clearly on paper. He must get it from his mum, who is also an amazing creative writer.

I also have a friend named Paris who likes to write. I have read some of his stories on Facebook, silly stories about ducks and their adventures. He manages to make them so funny and engaging to the point you laugh out loud!

I have so much appreciation for writers who can take you somewhere else in a few words on a page. They manage to open an imagination you never thought you had, and to a place you can only conceive.

I also enjoy writing this blog, it doesn't have to be perfect, and acts as an online creative diary of what I'm doing, when I'm doing (or thinking) it. It could almost become part of a portfolio of work, a more informal snapshot of the work I'm doing.

Over the summer, I plan to read a lot more writing. Books, poems, plays, anything I manage to get hold of. I believe books give you a place to escape to, and you can use other people's words and ideas to trigger new thoughts of your own.

I am so proud of my boyfriend and friends for being such amazing creatives!

Thanks for reading about them through this (blog) WRITING.
