Coventry Young Ambassador's Japan Conference
On Friday 26th March, I volunteered at the Coventry Young Ambassador's Japan Conference. 27 schools attended with over 300 7-9 year old children who were going to become Coventry's Young Ambassadors. They were doing workshops in preparation for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic games.
They took part in a range of activities including Origami, Taiko drumming, Sushi making, Manga, Japanese Stories, Kendo, Martial arts and so much more.
Here are a few photos of the event. I can't upload too many of the ones I have because obviously they have the children in them.
Here is a clip I managed to find of the guy who did the Taiko Drumming workshop. Obviously this is not working with children, but shows you what they do and what they are about (the video is there to just be able to see the cool drumming really!) The children were so excited about the drumming session, and when they walked into the room with 30 massive drums they loved it.
The children also got a chance to speak to Paralympian Kare Adenegan who came in with her silver medal from Rio 2016 to show the children. She hopes to go to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and aims for Gold.
This experience has been really valuable to me as it has allowed me to broaden my cultural knowledge while again getting experience working with children, which is something I may like to do in the future.
