My Extra-Curriculars

Outside of uni, I consider myself to be a very active person. I am part of this scheme in Coventry called "In It Together" which was funded by Coventry Council to get women in Coventry up and moving. They represent Coventry City football club and have a mens scheme too, but the idea is that the men and women train separately to encourage women to be more confident in training and pushing themselves to the limit (as training with men can sometimes be quite intimidating!). The programme is now pay as you go, but you get the hire of the room, equipment and basically a personal trainer to encourage you in each workout. You get 10 sessions for £20. This is amazing value for the sessions and quality you get.

I attend Running on a Monday, through their Run Like A Girl scheme. I want to become a Run Leader for this, and my interview is soon. I have done this scheme before and am on my second time of doing the programme. It slowly, each week, builds you up until you are able to run 5k. The Run Leaders help run the programme each week and are there to encourage you and make sure you complete the course as best you can. You also, as a Leader, get put through training to make sure you have a basic qualification in sporting. I hope to be able to be a leader in time for the new group they are starting up in Longford.

I also then do Soccercise and a Ladies only Circuit/Boxfit session on a Wednesday, one after the other with a Subway trip in the middle.

Soccercise is basically a circuit that we complete as a group, with footballs, but it has games, cardio, muscular and football related activities to make you sweat and have a good workout.

Boxfit is also a circuit train, with the inclusion of a boxing station to relieve stress.

I hope to go back to Netball on a Thursday. The past few weeks things have come up meaning that I could not attend. I want to go back to improve my fitness and teamwork. I remember this session being good fun and a friendly game, with ball skill games being included too.

Here are some photos I gave taken for Paula's module to do with the sessions I take part in:

I also practice Yoga at home on my own. In It Together provide this class, but it is on Wednesday mornings when I have university. I use the app called Asana Rebel and connect it to my TV.

These are all the classes In It Together provide, I'd love to do them all but do not have enough time! In some cases, I can not be in two places at once.

*These are just the women's only sessions, the mens sessions fall under "Sky Blues in the Community".*

I really enjoy these sessions and feel like they destress me and make me feel good physically. They also keep me healthy. It also takes my mind off uni work and ensures that when I come back to it, I feel refreshed and calm. I also find that running helps me to think. I come up with new ideas while running. The exercise I do definitely helps me to be a more creative person, and has inspired me for my website for Paula's module. It is fun, non-judgemental and helps to keep me fit and healthy.

It also keeps me social, I will be completing the Colour Blast Dash with In It Together as a massive group. This will be really fun as we will turn up like an army of women and family members to all complete it together and support each other while raising money and awareness for a charity.

In It Together and Sky Blues in the Community are brilliant schemes, I am so proud to have been a part of the programme since the start. It brings confidence to so many women, and fitness to men, women and has a schools programme which I have also helped out with.

It has had a massive impact on my life. The instructors make each week fun enjoyable and make you work hard without you even realising.
