This week, Phil did an exercise to make us really think about what we are interested in to make us reflect upon and interrogate our thoughts. Through this process, I realised I have been really inspired by guest speaker Amrit Singh / @MrASingh.

He really inspired me and related to me, more than the other creative speakers. I’m not sure why this is, I would say it was because he came to Coventry Uni himself but other people from the talks have also been to Coventry.

His work is really unique and beautifully composed. He showed examples of all different types of work he has done, from paintings and drawings, to decorating a London 2012 bear. He also spoke about he uses his creative mind to partner with different brands, such as Google, to create an interesting campaign - live in their store in London.

Mr Singh also taught us about how to use different social media platforms to your own advantage. With his work, he livestreams (through periscope) the majority on one platform, but then uses Instagram for final outcomes and Facebook and Twitter for different things. This means he gets the biggest fan base he can on all social media, as his different platforms show fans different things, making them want to have him on all platforms. They also don’t see anything that is the same on different sites. This is so simple but really clever and effective.

Mr Singh has also developed his own unique style, which makes him and his work recognisable. Each piece is also unique, he sells these to his fans which allows them to have a special, colourful, handmade and unique piece of their own by an inspiring artist.

I feel like Amrit has become successful through what he does because he enjoys what he is doing, he has his own style and is passionate about doing it. This boosts his interest and motivation to complete pieces and projects. This relates to me, as I feel that if I find something I am this interested and passionate about, I will also drive myself to success.

Of course, we must appreciate his talent, too. It isn’t as if he just woke up one day and agreed to be passionate about doing unique, creative and inspired doodles, he is really good at it too. This is why people are interested in him as a person and artist. He is truly amazing at what he does and has an amazing eye for colour and pattern, and an amazing mind for ideas and concepts. I must say everything he has created I think is beautiful. His combination of colours, lines, topics and subjects is exquisite. He also uses both digital and hand rendered techniques to create the same amazing and unique style of work.

Here are some examples of his work: (all images are his own - taken from Instagram)

I hope that like him, I can find my own unique path and have the same passion he does to fulfil a goal and reach my full potential in my chosen area. If I do happen to gain publicity from this, I would be so thankful and amazed!

To do this, I plan to study hard at university, to hopefully find my own creative field and become passionate and successful through it. I hope that I will create beautiful art like Amrit does, and I hope to one day have my own identity and brand.

Thankyou for reading about this amazing artist. If you have never heard of him you should check out his Instagram @MrASingh – you can do this without having an account! Here is the link: https://www.instagram.com/mrasingh/?hl=en
