Compton Verney Map Brief

For the Design Contexts module, we were given the brief of recreating the Compton Verney gallery map, to make it more exciting and engaging. I decided to make the map more colourful and energetic, because at the moment the colours used are dull and unexciting. The map is also very square and precise, with words used instead of images. To tackle this, I decided to use brighter colours for each room, and to use illustrations instead of words for each room name, these images will pop out of the boxes making the map seem less geometric. The illustrations would show something that's in that collection (or something that closely relates to it) and then the colour would co-ordinate to a key below which would tell you the name of that particular room or collection.

Here are some images of the original map:

And here are some photos of the map I produced:

The feedback I received from peers and my lecturer was positive, with most people stating the drawings were exciting and made the map bold and colourful, however, my lecturer pointed out to make this map better, the front cover and text needs to be digitalised, just leaving the images hand drawn in the design. This is something I will work on before the final semester deadline to make my map more professional. If I complete this to a high standard, I might do another blog post about the digitalisation process.

Thanks again for reading,
